The following is a list of our course offerings and their descriptions...

Pre-Algebra (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite:  Grade 8 Mathematics

Integrates topics from arithmetic, geometry, algebra, measurement and statistics in preparation for the college preparatory program. Uses patterns to model concepts such as number, variable, graph, relation and operations and real-life applications and calculators to bridge the gap between concrete and abstract concepts and principles.

Applied Algebra (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite: Applied Problem Solving.

This will be the last year offered.   Expands upon Applied Problem Solving skills.  Includes the algebra of linear and quadratic functions, systems of linear equations, computer-aided problem solving, geometry, and quality assurance.

Algebra Ia (1 term, 1 credit) and    Prerequisite:  Pre-Algebra

Algebra Ib (1 term, 1 credit)

Introduces algebraic concepts. Emphasizes the theory and application of variables, graphing, linear equations and inequalities, quadratics equations, and solving problems involving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities.

*Students must pass both Algebra Ia and Algebra Ib to meet the state requirement for Algebra I.  Both courses must be taken in the same school year.

Euclidean Geometry (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite:  Algebra Ia and Algebra Ib

Provides a visual approach to conceptualizing. Uses informal and formal logical reasoning processes including deductive and inductive reasoning, synthetic, coordinate and transformational approaches to study congruence, similarity, parallelism, symmetry and perpendicularity and algebraic techniques to solve problems involving perimeter, area and volume.

Algebra II (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite:  Algebra Ia and Algebra Ib, Geometry

Extends Algebra I skills. Uses calculators and computers to assist problem solving. Emphasizes polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions and the extension of number to irrational and complex numbers. Covers in-depth graphing, systems of linear equations and inequalities and quadratics. Introduces probability, statistics, sequences and series.

Algebra III (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite:  Algebra II

Provides a mathematics course for students whose future careers do not require extensive mathematical, scientific or technical backgrounds. Unifies and extends algebraic and geometric concepts in problem-solving situations using calculators and computers.

Advanced Algebra & Trigonometry (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite:  Algebra II and Geometry

Enhances algebra skills and introduces trigonometry through calculators and computers. Emphasizes real and complex numbers, vectors, matrices, sequences, series, probability, statistics, coni sections, functions and problem solving. Stresses interrelationships of concepts.

Calculus (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite:  Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry

Follows the College Board syllabus for the Advanced Placement Calculus AP Examination; requires four years of college preparatory mathematical preparation, beginning with Algebra I. Includes functions, limits and continuity; derivatives and integrals and their applications.

AP Calculus (1 term, 1 credit)    Prerequisite: Calculus

Follows the College Board syllabus for the Advanced Placement Calculus AP Examination; requires four years of college preparatory mathematical preparation, beginning with Algebra I. Includes functions, limits and continuity; derivatives and integrals and their applications.  More detailed study of calculus.  Students prepare to take the AP exam.

SAT Prep Math (1 term, 1 Credit)     Taken with SAT Prep Verbal

This course is geared towards those Juniors and Seniors who are preparing to take the SAT sometime within the near future.  Due to difficulty of math type problems in the course, the course is designed for those Juniors and Seniors who have had classes at least through Geometry.   Algebra II is highly recommended.
