For proper maintenance and enhancement of the school environment, Shaw has the following services for its students and faculty:
Counseling and Advisement The efforts of the Guidance Department are directed toward encouraging Shaw students to develop self-knowledge and self-discipline and to define and attain their educational and vocational goals to the highest degree consistent with their abilities. Shaw’s multifaceted approach to advisement with counselors, advisors and classroom teachers providing information and guidance, play an important role in the total educational process. Parents, students and faculty are invited to make use of this service. The Guidance Office is open from 7:15 am until 3:15 pm.

Media Center The Media Center plays a strategic role in the instructional program of Shaw High School. The center contains a wealth of materials and services, including books, videotapes, on-line capabilities, and other media for the use of students and faculty. The Media Center is open from 7:15am to 3:15pm and is available to students during the day with a pass from their respective teachers.
Phones Office phones are for school business and not for student use until after 3:15pm each school day. Students may use pay phones before and after school, but are prohibited from making calls during school hours. Students who become ill should report to Student Services, and a parent will be contacted. Parents should not expect school secretaries to deliver phone messages to students in situations other than emergencies. Students will be called to the office at the end of the school day to deliver messages from parents.
Clubs A comprehensive list of clubs and activities is available from Advisors. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities offered by clubs and activities for community service, school service, and self improvement.
Student I.D. BadgesEvery Shaw High School student will be issued a school I.D. These are to be carried at all times on campus and are required for school computer use.
Lockers Lockers are provided for student use for a rental fee of $5.00. When lockers are left open or combinations shared, three undesirable consequences might occur: (1) Items are stolen, (2) Locker doors are bent or otherwise vandalized, or (3) students become responsible for contraband left in their lockers by others. School administrators have the legal right and obligation to insure enforcement of school policies and have the right to search a student, his locker, and other personal effects.
Students are not permitted to share lockers, so purchase
your own early. The sharing of lockers will mean loss of locker
privileges. |
